Konstantin Krimmel

Baritone

Konstantin Krimmel, with German-Romanian roots, first got in touch with music sining at the St. George's Choir Boys in Ulm and from this moment on, the fascination of music never left him. At the age of 21, he began his vocal studies with Prof. Teru Yoshihara, which the singer completed with distinction in 2020. In the meantime he is being coached by Tobias Truniger in Munich.

Baritone with a passion for Lied concerts

Even in his student days, Konstantin Krimmel developed a special love for the concert and lied repertoire, which he quickly expanded. He has won numerous competitions since, including the German Music Competition 2019 as well as 1st prize at the International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition, 2nd prize at the International Singing Competition 'Das Lied' in Heidelberg and the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition.

Accordingly, the artist has already toured nationally and internationally. These include recitals at the Kölner Philharmonie, the Deutsche Opern Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Oper Frankfurt, the Heidelberger Frühling, as a guest at the Schubertíada de Vilabertran, the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg, in Madrid, in London (Wigmore Hall) and at the Lied Festival in Oxford. In 2021/2022 he will be heard in Strasbourg, Nuremberg and Hohenems, among other places.

Further fine tasks are waiting the young baritone in the oratorio field. In summer 2021, the Brahms Requiem under the direction of Raphael Pichon (together with Sabine Devieilhe, soprano) him in Bordeaux and the surrounding area, an extensive tour (Christmas Oratorio by J.S.Bach) with the Nederlands Kamerkoor under the direction of P.Dijkstra in December and concerts with Bach's St. Matthew Passion under the direction of Ph. Herreweghe at Easter 2022.

Member of the Bavarian State Opera ensemble

Konstantin Krimmel will open a whole new chapter in the field of opera when he becomes a member of the Bavarian State Opera beginning in autumn 2021. There he can be seen in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos (Harlequin), in Britten's Peter Grimes (Ned Keene) and in Thomas (Matthias) by Georg Friedrich Haas in the next season. In the next few years, he will be performing major Mozart roles in particular. He also returns to the Staatstheater Wiesbaden as 'Figaro' in Mozart's Figaro's Wedding.

Since 2019 Konstantin Krimmel has been an exclusive artist of the French label Alpha - a recording of Handel's 'Brockes Passion' together with the Ensemble Arcangelo under Jonathan Cohen has recently been released. His first Lied CD entitled 'Saga' (Lieder and Ballads by Loewe, Schumann, Schubert, Adolf Jensen) was highly praised by Thilo Braun, Deutschlandfunk, among others: "At only 26 years of age, he already possesses an interpretative depth and a technical sovereignty with which he doesn’t need to fear comparison with great Lied singers in his vocal field.“

"Konstantin Krimmel is only 28 years old, and already he is one of the greats in the Lied field. The maturity, differentiation and perfection of his technically simply brilliant singing left a deep impression. At the same time, his interpretative approach seems completely natural, each song seems to be experienced, its expressive content is grasped and explored - and last but not least, the lyrics are declaimed flawlessly and clearly".

"Another young baritone, Konstantin Krimmel, is the standout in a new recording of Handel's Brockes Passion on the Alpha Classics label. With a richness of nuance schooled in lieder singing, Krimmel gives the figure of Jesus a deeply feeling human face. Together with colleagues such as the exquisite tenor Stuart Jackson and the slender Arcangelo ensemble, he succeeds in bringing out the touching moments - and pushing the baroque swagger of the piece into the background."

NZZ - Marcus Stäbler, 25 March 2021

"And soprano Sandrine Piau (Daughter of Zion), tenor Stuart Jackson (as the Evangelist) and baritone Konstantin Krimmel as Jesus succeed in eliciting touching and comforting features from every lament, however harrowing and sympathetic."

RONDO - Guido Fischer, 13.03.2021

"Konstantin Krimmel's equally superlative Jesus: his heartbreaking accompanied recitative "Mein Vater", in triptych, between abandonment and inner light, is one of the highlights of this disc. Almost making you forget the "Es ist vollbracht" of Bach's St. John's Day!" Saint-Jean de Bach!"

Brockes-Passion

„Barthold Heinrich Brockes wrote a libretto on the Passion of Christ – based on the account in Matthew’s Gospel – which was set to music by many composers of his time, including Reinhard Keiser, Georg Philip Telemann and George Frideric Handel. It is Handel’s version of the latter that the period-instrument ensemble Arcangelo has chosen to present here. Under the direction of Jonathan Cohen, these specialists in the Baroque repertory are joined by the voices of Sandrine Piau, whose numerous Handel recordings are regarded as a benchmark, the tenor Stuart Jackson and the baritone Konstantin Krimmel, recently revealed in a debut recital for Alpha (Saga, ALPHA549). Together they resurrect the operatic splendour of a work that was first performed in 1719 and is thought to have influenced numerous passages of J. S. Bach’s St John Passion, written a few years later.“
